2 Men Dead After Industrial Accident in Carlsbad

Carlsbad, NM (3/4/2020) – 2 men were killed after an accident that occurred at a Concho Resources lease location in southern New Mexico.

Deputies found Nicholas Gerberich (28) and Storm Hutchins (24) at an oil drilling site off South Country Road and U.S. Highway 285 unconscious and not breathing.

Emergency medical personnel declared the men dead at the scene. According to the county sheriff’s office, the cause of death was apparent electrocution. A final determination will be made after the Sheriff’s office obtains an official report from the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The investigation is ongoing.
