Head-On Car Crash Near Rankin Kills Mother and Two Daughters

Rankin, Texas — A mother and her two daughters died Saturday evening after being involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The accident happened 15 miles north of Rankin on Highway 349. Prior to the official reports, viewers of the accident told media that a the victims of the crash were a mother and her two daughters.

On Sunday evening, the Rankin Independent School District sent out a statement on their Facebook group that two students and their mother had died over the weekend.

“The loss of Kristina McCrary, Rylee Ramos and Reece Ramos is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students,” the statement read.

Rankin Independent School District plans to have counselors on hand for any student, faculty or staff member that seeks grief counseling.

The Department of Public Safety has confirmed the victims of the crash were indeed Kristina McCrary, Rylee Ramos and Reece Ramos. DPS has also confirmed that the driver of the other vehicle, Fabian Esquivel, 28, has died as well.

According to reports, Esquivel was pronounced dead after being taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. The reports also state that Esquivel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The passenger of Esquivel’s truck, a four-year-old girl, was taken to Rankin County Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities believe that the accident was caused by Esquivel traveling into the opposite lane where he struck McCrary’s vehicle head-on.

The crash is still under investigation.
