McKinley County, New Mexico (1/20/2021) – New Mexico State Police have arrested a man in connection with a hit and run that killed two. Jagjeet Singh, 24, of Indiana, was found at Flying J’s truck stop off I-40 with substantial damage to the front of his vehicle.

The night prior, McKinley County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:30 PM regarding a woman walking eastbound on I-40. Moments later, an NMSP officer traveling eastbound on I-40 discovered scattered debris. An MCSO deputy arrived shortly after to investigate the scene and discovered the woman deceased and a car seat nearby carrying a deceased infant.

The woman was later identified as Jessica Ann Copey, 24, of Tohlakai, NM. The identity of the infant will not be released by State Police for the privacy of the family.

Alcohol does not seem to have played a part in the hit and run. The accident is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.
