July 8, 2022

Odessa, TX (July 7, 2022) – Odessa Police Department responded to a car accident that left one person dead. The accident occurred Thursday afternoon in the 12800 block of E. Highway 191.

76-year-old Don Bassett, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, was driving behind a 2003 Mercedes, driven by 42-year-old Hortensia Almaras. Both were traveling eastbound. Bassett continued to speed up and hit the Mercedes, causing both cars to leave the road and hit the retaining barrier.
