Tragic Head On Collision Kills Teen Driver and 12 Year Old Passenger

Chaves County, New Mexico (4/8/2021) – A head-on collision that happened at about 2:30 p.m. on New Mexico Highway 2, near Crockett Road in Chaves County has taken the life of the teen driver and 12-year-old passenger.

According to New Mexico State Police, a 33-year-old man Roswell man was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV in the southbound lane when he attempted to pass another vehicle and veered into the northbound lane. He then struck the 17-year-old driving a 2009 Ford Focus. The Ford Focus caught fire was engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Oldsmobile was taken to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries. Per reports of the press release, the driver of the Oldsmobile may have charges brought against then pending the results of the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor and the crash is still under investigation.
