Name of Bus Crash Victim Has Been Released by Police
Oldham County, Texas — After a fatal bus crash this morning on I-40 in the town of Vega, authorities have released more information about the incident.
According to reports, the bus was traveling westbound on I-40 in a construction zone when the driver drifted into the closed lane where the construction was taking place.
The bus then hit multiple traffic cones and cement support beams. When first responders at the scene, the bus driver, 71-year-old Jerry Buckner of Albuquerque, New Mexico, had passed.
Three passengers sustained serious injuries and have been transported to Northwest Texas Hospital. Two passengers were also transported to the same hospital for less life-threatening injuries.
First responders also took 13 passengers to a local hospital in Hereford where they could be treated with minor injuries. A second bus from a separate charter company in Lubbock will pick up the rest of the passengers at Christ Community Church in Vega.
At the time of the crash, the bus was traveling to Albuquerque and did not impact any of the construction.
The accident is still under investigation.
