Tatum, New Mexico (9/28/2020) — An auto accident crash that occurred on Thursday west of Tatum on U.S. Route 380 has left a young couple from West Texas dead.
According to the press release, a Mercedes, driven by a man from Albuquerque, was traveling on the eastbound side of U.S. Route 380 when the driver drove across the center line and into oncoming traffic. The Mercedes then hit a Ford pickup truck head-on.
The pickup was occupied by a family of five. The parents, Otis Kent “Kenny” Comstock, 35 of Odessa, and Melissa Nicole Comstock, 34, of Odessa sustained fatal injuries. Their three children suffered less life threatening injuries and were transported by first responders to local hospitals.
Kenny was an executive pastor at the Crossroads in Odessa church, per a Facebook post made by the church. The post also stated that one of the three children in the crash suffered a head injury but is expected to make a full recovery.
The driver of the Mercedes also suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital to be treated.
Local police do not suspect alcohol was a cause of the crash and the Comstock family were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
No further information is known about those injured or the cause of the collision.
