January 31, 2023

LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (Jan 30, 2023) – Monday morning, a 20-year-old woman was killed and a 7-year-old child was left injured in a car crash that occurred just before 9:10 a.m. less than one-half mile east of Idalou at U.S. Highway 62/82 and Farm-to-Market Road 400.

Texas DPS reported that a utility van was driving north on FM 400 toward the intersection at Hwy. 62/82. A passenger car, driven by 20-year-old Hannah Nicole Hernandez, was heading west on the highway.

The utility van failed to yield the right of way and pulled out into the path of the passenger car that was westbound on Hwy. 62/82. Both vehicles crashed in the intersection.

Hernandez and a 7-month-old child were injured and transported to UMC. The 20-year-old later died from her injuries. The driver of the utility van was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation.
